About Client
Home Depot is an American home improvement supplies retailing company that sells tools, construction products, and services.
Project Goals
Home Depot loves their customers and wants to be sure they have the best knowledge to tackle their home improvement projects. We worked with them to develop Built from Scratch as a place to act as both a corporate hub and and somewhere visitors could get tips and tricks to help tackle their latest project.
We utilized Wordpress and a custom theme to create Built From Scratch (we often joked that the new website was also "built from scratch...haha"). Because it was a one-stop-shop for all things Home Depot, it needed to be flexible and easy to use for the editors. Other sub-pages included a corporate history, a "Values Wheel" to showcase what exemplifies a Home Depot employee, and a custom gallery where Home Depot could upload high-resolution images for the press to be able to download and a lightbox so visitors could see the high-quality images full-screen.
Creative Solutions
Home Depot is proud of their history and wanted to highlight some of the big milestones in an Interactive timeline. We built the timeline using jQuery and Waypoint.js to detect the scroll position as the visitor moved along the timeline and to trigger animation events. Though Built From Scratch went through a redesign last year, the interactive timeline still exists on its new home.
Home Depot wanted to highlight what most exemplifies a Home Depot employee. We worked with them to create an interactive "values wheel" that features an employee who most embodies that respective value and allows a visitor to move throw the wheel like a carousel. Like the interactive timeline mentioned above, the values wheel still lives on in the new Home Depot corporate site.
